The beautifully restored Rhinecliff Hotel is located in the
beautiful Hudson Valley offering picturesque views of the Hudson River. Many
things have changed since the hotel was built in 1854 as a railroad hotel but the
trains still stop out front making it a convenient place to stay heading north
or south from New York City.
There is plenty to do in the area. Hop on Amtrak and take
the short ride to Poughkeepsie where the National Park Service operates the
free “Roosevelt Ride,” a shuttle service from the train station in Poughkeepsie
to the Roosevelt sites and the Vanderbilt Mansion. The service is operational from May to
September. Actually there are a plethora of things to do in the vicinity. But
be sure to be back to the Rhinecliff Hotel in time for a libation in the bar
and a relaxing dinner. For more information check Therhinecliff.com.
All accommodations have a private balcony with great views,
antique hardwood floors, a flat screen
TV, whirlpool tub, shower, complimentary
internet access, and many other high-end amenities. Also included is the full
made-to-order breakfast with French press coffee and real maple syrup for those
scrumptious French toast. By the way, accommodations come with ear plug for
those who may be bothered by the sound of the trains passing by. However, only
a couple trains pass by in the night and those that do create a nostalgic sound
of yesterday when trains were the fastest way to travel. Be sure to ask for a
copy of the hotel’s history. Even the
Lincoln Funeral Train made a stop at the hotel.
